Aside from sports, firearms are also used for defense, to protect ourselves, our loved ones, and our property. This was ably demonstrated by SPO2 Herbert Salazar Baylon, a member of the Marikina Police Shooting Team, when he foiled a bus robbery in EDSA Guadalupe, by beating the robbers to the draw.

During the awarding ceremonies at the USEC Rico Puno Shooting Competition at the Armscor Shooting Range, SPO2 Baylon was recognized and honored for his heroic deed by Marikina Chief of Police Gabriel Lopez, Armscor Chairman and President Demetrio "Bolo" Tuason, Usec Rico Puno, PPSA President Governor Suharto T. Mangudadatu, and ASRI President Gina Marie Angangco.
